Electric Vehicle Charging

Domestic & Commercial Electric Vehicle Charge Points

Just Energy Solutions are Accredited Installers of a number of electric vehicle (EV) charging points. With the UK EV market predicted to triple in size over coming months, demand for charge points is on the rise. Just one of the many benefits of buying an electric vehicle is the Government grants currently in place to entice new EV drivers and help reduce the UK’s carbon footprint.

The Plug-in Car Grant is a financial contribution to the cost of buying a new EV, provided it meets certain conditions. The grant covers 35% of the cost of an electric car, up to a maximum of either £2,500 or £4,500 depending on the model, and 20% of of the cost of an electric van, up to a maximum of £8,000. The Plug-in Car Grant is not to be confused with the Homecharge scheme, which is a contribution towards installing an EV charging point at home.

A spike in EV popularity led the Government to update their grant schemes and reduce the amount contributed per vehicle and charge point, in order to stretch their budget and continue the scheme until at least 2018; these reduction came into effect from March 2016. The Government is unlikely to offer grants for electric vehicles and charge points forever, so it’s worth taking advantage of the schemes while you can. We’ve compiled the ultimate guide to electric vehicle pros and cons on our blog – have a read to learn more.

Domestic Electric Vehicle Charging

Get up to £500 off your EV charge point with the OLEV grant

The Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (often referred to as the OLEV grant) is a government grant provided by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles. It offers electric vehicle owners up to £500 off the cost of buying and installing an EV charging point at home – you would then pay the remainder of the cost to your installer. Just Energy Solutions has been approved by OLEV as an accredited electric vehicle charge point installer, as is eligible to apply for the Homecharge grant on your behalf. Complete terms and conditions can be found on the OLEV website.

There are a number of benefits to installing a EV charge point at home. Unlike a conventional plug socket, a charge point communicates directly with your car, making charging at home much safer. In addition to this, charging time is reduced by 30 – 60%, depending on the car, making charging at home much quicker. POD Point Solo

POD Point are one of the UK’s leading providers of EV charging stations, and the POD Point Solo range is their domestic charging solution. The Solo comes in 3 different power levels – the higher the power level, the more quickly your EV will charge, and the higher the RPH (range per hour of charge).

The POD Point Solo S3 is a 3.7kW charging system, yielding up to 15 miles RPH. The S7 is a 7kW system, yielding up to 30 miles RPH. The S22 is a 22kW system, yielding up to 80 miles RPH. The Solo is available with a universal socket or a tethered charging cable, depending on the model.

Boasting 22,000 charging stations sold, POD Point also has a network of 1,500 public EV charging stations.

BMW Wallbox

If your EV is part of BMW’s plugin range, the preferred choice of charge point is the BMW Wallbox. This branded BMW accessory is perfect for your private parking space at home. Made mainly from durable, recycled materials, it can be used both indoors and outside.

The BMW Wallbox provides fast charging at 32 Amp, so a BMW i3 can be charged in less than 2 hours (0-80%). The high-action radius, 4m long, tethered charging cable lets you connect the cable to your vehicle one-handed. Charging starts automatically, unless you choose to delay it using the car’s seven day built-in timer.

Just Energy Solutions has been appointed by Schneider Electric as their Preferred Installer for BMW’s Wallbox charging system. Read more about BMW Wallbox charge points or get in touch today to speak to the team about your home charge point.
