Reduce Your Heating Bills This Winter: Control Your Thermostat Small changes = big savings Boilers and your heating account for about 60% of what you spend in a year on energy, so making a few small changes could have a big impact on heating bills. Don’t pay more than you need to for heating this winter. Read our tips below and start saving today! Make your thermostat work for you If used correctly, heating controls can let you keep your home at a comfortable temperature without wasting too much heat or fuel. Set your thermostat to the lowest comfortable temperature – between 18 and 21 degrees on average. Reducing your temperature by just 1% could save you up to 10% on your bill. The average heating bill in the UK was £720/year as of 2014, so a 10% saving means up to £72 or more per year! A programmable thermostat allows you to set up your heating to turn on and off at different times of the day using ‘on’ and ‘off’ time periods. The majority of models will let you set the domestic hot water and central heating to go on and off at different times. Remember to check the clock on the programmer is correct before you set your programmes – you’ll also need to adjust this each time the clocks change. Just Energy Solutions Commits to Donating Minimum of £7,200 Per Year In Memory of Local Teen Who Died of Brain Tumour Local energy company, Just Energy Solutions, has announced its official partnership with the Oli Mills Foundation to support the Teenage Cancer Trust in fundraising and spreading awareness. Just Energy Solutions (JES) last month committed to donate £2 for every new boiler they install to the Oli Mills Foundation (OMF) – a charitable group set up to raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT) in memory of local teenager, Oliver Mills, who died of a brain tumour 10 years ago. £2 per boiler installed will be donated, on a monthly basis to the foundation, and based on figures to date, will be approximately £680 per month. In the event that boiler installations fall below 300, they have agreed to donate a minimum of £600 per month. The donations will be reviewed at the end of each financial year, with a view to improving this position further. To kick start their partnership, JES back dated their first donation to include both October and September’s boiler installations – this comes to a total of £1,208 donated last month! Oli attended Verulam School, was an active member of Hatfield Hyde Cricket Club and was a fit, 18 year old with his whole life ahead of him.
