Electric Vehicles: The Pros & Cons

Electric Vehicles: The Pros & Cons The electric vehicle (EV) is a relatively new concept in the world of cars. Although a fully electric car runs solely on electricity (a battery electric vehicle), some companies also offer hybrid vehicles that run on a combination of electricity and fuel – some of these plug in, some don’t. They may be relatively new, but EVs have surged hugely in recent years, with approximately 67,000 battery EVs (plug-in, grant eligible cars/vans) on UK roads right now. That’s an impressive 5,560% increase in just over 4 years, up from just 1,205 EVs in the UK at the end of 2011! The basic concept is that buying and driving an EV instead of a traditional fuel vehicle will both save you money and be better for the environment. Traditional fuel cars produce a high amount of carbon emissions that contribute to pollution, greenhouse gases and climate change. The cost of running a traditional fuel car is also higher, as petrol and diesel is more expensive than electricity when considering cost per mile. In contrast, an electric vehicle doesn’t produce any carbon emissions (advantage #9 in our list) while operating, though we still need to consider the emissions generated by creating the electricity in the first place. However, in a place like the UK, where we have less coal-based and fossil-heavy electricity generation than other countries, an electric vehicle will almost always produce significantly less carbon emissions than its traditional fuel counterpart. In other countries, EV carbon emissions can vary from similar to average petrol cars to less than half those of the best petrol...

Just Energy Solutions Partners with BMW & Schneider Electric To Install Electric Vehicle Charge Points

Just Energy Solutions has been appointed as BMW and Schneider Electric’s preferred installer of their i Wallbox electric vehicle (EV) charge points for London and the South, across their range of i3s, i8s and the soon to be released X5. In 2013, BMW and Schneider Electric teamed up to provide customers with a means of charging the all-electric BMW i3 at home.  The partnership saw Schneider Electric become the manufacturer of the BMW i Wallbox, as well as the recommended provider of installation packages. This relationship has blossomed as BMW’s range of electric vehicles has continued to expand and Schneider Electric, via their partners, have provided home surveys, supply and installation of the charging point, as well as offering maintenance and comprehensive support. Just Energy Solutions are the newest addition to the partnership and will be acting as preferred installer of the i Wallbox Pure across London and the South of England. This will expand to include the i Wallbox Pro upon its UK release later this year. The i Walbox Pro will combine solar PV panels and the charge point to power vehicles with clean, sustainable, self-generated electricity, with the option of connecting to a range of smart home systems for even more control and functionality. “We are extremely pleased to have Just Energy Solutions join our BMW Wallbox Installation Team. We believe that they will provide the expertise and efficiency required in this valuable project as well as meet the standards and level of service which Schneider Electric, BMW and their customers have come to expect. Just Energy Solutions’ reputation for quality only reinforces our confidence in...

Preparing for the Future – Just Energy Solutions to go Electric!

Being experts in all aspects of renewable and sustainable technology, it will come as no surprise that the Just Energy Solutions team are avid electric vehicle fans. Producing zero emissions, electric vehicles are totally 100 percent free of pollutants. So by replacing our fuel guzzling cars for EVs, we can dramatically reduce our environmental footprint. But having a more positive effect on the environment is not the only perk of owning an electric vehicle. EVs have been proven to be three times more efficient than gas engines, have increased safety measures and they get better mileage than any other car on the road! So, taken into account all of the above, Just Energy Solutions have made the decision that our company should invest in an electric vehicle fleet! By switching to electric, we can further reduce our businesses impact on the environment and help to preserve our world for future generations. With our main office based in St Albans, we can also contribute towards reducing the high pollution levels in and around London. In the first step towards making our plans a reality, our team recently took the Renault Zoe for a test drive. The Renault Zoe is a five door, 100 percent electric car that offers fantastic value for money. We found that the quiet, smoothing driving experience of the Renault Zoe offered a truly relaxing experience and we found that keeping up with the pace of traditional road traffic was not a problem. We are excited at the outcome of the test drive on the Renault Zoe and are looking forward to testing even more electric vehicles...
